He founded the 'Virtual Reality Surgical Simulation Centre' for educating surgeons and pioneered the MSc in Surgical Skills and Sciences at Queen Mary, University of London.

Professor Patel was able to remove my Gallbladder with spinal block, this option was essential for me. He was professional and helpful at every step and I will be always be grateful to him and Dr Chawla. If I need any future surgery, I would only want Professor Patel. I had complete confidence in Prof. Patel. He explained all, he was compassionate, approachable, and I could not fault him.
Prof Patel explained everything to the full, he treated me with respect and addressed any concerns. Prof Patel ensured I was at ease with my surgery before and fully explained the extent of the procedure afterwards as it was more complex.
Professor Patel put our minds at rest from the first appointment. His approach and honesty gave us complete confidence in his ability to complete the surgery safely and competently. He explained the whole procedure clearly and also explained the benefits and risks. In hospital, he was reassuring and gave an air of calm and confidence. We knew the procedure was going to be tricky but felt that we had been informed clearly about it and were very pleased with the excellent outcome. The aftercare was excellent and we felt in safe hands. Prof Patel is not just a highly competent surgeon, he is a genuinely lovely man and has a really caring and reassuring nature. I would not hesitate to recommend him.
