As an amateur keyboard player, I sought out Mr Phillips as I was keen to have the opinion and perspective not only of a hand surgeon but also of a fellow musician, and I was not disappointed. I found him to be very professional, easy to talk to, an attentive and sympathetic listener who put me at my ease and gained my confidence at once. Our conversation was unhurried, his explanations were very clear and he was very reassuring about the treatment I had already received (from another surgeon) and about further treatment being proposed. He was also very helpful in pointing me towards hand therapists who might be able to help me in my recovery after further surgery, including therapists who specialise in working with musicians. He said he would be happy to see me again if necessary and for my part I would certainly have no hesitation in consulting him in the future. I couldn't recommend Mr Phillips highly. enough. 

I am London-based, Cambridge and King's College Hospital trained, and was a general trauma and orthopaedic consultant surgeon at King's for about 13 years until 2015. I now only work in HCA private hospitals in central London (Shard, 31 Old Broad Street (Bank)) and operate at London Bridge Hospital.

I went to see Mr Rhee after injuring my shoulder playing rugby. He identified the issue almost instantly and knew the best course of action. It ended up needing surgery which Mr Rhee explain what would take place. The surgery went well and I have the neatest scar I could wish for, his aftercare is second to non. Thanks to Mr Rhee I am able to continue to play rugby and will be forever grateful!!!

What is Compartment Pressure Testing?

The Stanmore NHS Dance Injury Clinic at RNOH diagnoses and treats injured dancers of all ages across the spectrum, ranging from amateur to professional.

This multi-disciplinary medical clinic is led by Dr Rick Seah, Consultant in Sport, Exercise & Musculoskeletal Medicine at RNOH. 

Dancers are assessed within the hospital’s Sport, Exercise & Musculoskeletal Medicine (SEMM) Service.

Expertise available within the Trust include highly experienced musculoskeletal adult and paediatric physiotherapists, other allied health professionals, radiologists, physicians and orthopaedic surgeons.

Any dancers or performing artists with the following issues can be referred to the Stanmore NHS Dance Injury Clinic by their NHS GP:

-Acute or chronic musculoskeletal symptoms (soft tissue injuries and non-inflammatory conditions).

-Symptoms which prevent or restrict an individual’s ability to participate in dance.

-Dancers seeking  advice on return to dance  following injury or illness.
