Mr Tom Nunn is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon based in Glasgow, where he provides private care at Elanic Hospital with a specialist focus on knee surgery. He is one of very few surgeons to practise exclusively arthroscopic (keyhole) techniques and has spent over a decade specialising in the diagnosis and management of knee problems. His clinical work covers the full spectrum of knee conditions, with particular expertise in meniscal preservation, ligament reconstruction and the management of chondral (joint surface) injury and degenerative change in arthritis. He places strong emphasis on realistic medicine and shared decision-making, aiming to use non-surgical options where appropriate and tailoring any surgical intervention to the individual needs and goals of each patient.
Fellowship trained in sports injury surgery, Mr Nunn has developed advanced skills in arthroscopic knee procedures, including meniscal repair, ligament reconstruction and joint preservation techniques. At Elanic Hospital he offers a wide range of knee treatments, including arthroscopic meniscectomy for torn meniscus, meniscal repair, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (with or without lateral extra-articular tenodesis), multi-ligament reconstruction using internal brace techniques, radiofrequency chondroplasty and cartilage repair procedures such as microfracture and nanofracture. He also manages patella (kneecap) instability and patella dislocation with procedures such as medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction, alongside treatment of osteoarthritis, knee instability, degenerative changes and sports-related injuries.
Mr Nunn completed his orthopaedic training in the West of Scotland and undertook early international fellowships in the United States, followed by a post-completion training fellowship in Edinburgh focused on sports injury and knee surgery. Since 2011 he has held a full-time consultant post in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, based at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley. In addition to his clinical practice, he has taken on roles in clinical leadership, medical education and eHealth, and is a member of the Realistic Medicine Network Group.
Alongside his NHS and private practice, Mr Nunn is an honorary senior clinical lecturer at the University of Glasgow and has contributed to postgraduate surgical education through his work on the Postgraduate Surgical Education Board at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He has published in peer-reviewed journals, presented his work nationally and internationally in the field of knee surgery, and is the illustrator and co-editor of a widely used orthopaedic textbook for trainee surgeons.

Fantastic experience with Mr. Nunn. I had a knee arthroscopy and meniscus repair, Mr. Nunn explained the procedure in detail and the risks involved clearly. He was incredibly clear with the expected outcome which was very reassuring. Very approachable abd friendly in his bedside manner and a tremendous surgeon. Less than 24h post op I am able to fully weight bear and walk short periods unassisted. Thank you very much Mr. Nunn and all the team at Elanic.
