Dr. Taffy Makaya

Dr Taffy Makaya is a highly regarded Consultant Paediatrician and Paediatric Endocrinologist who provides compassionate and comprehensive medical care to children and young people. With a patient-centred approach, she focuses on delivering personalised care that addresses the unique developmental, physical, and emotional needs of infants, children, and adolescents. Dr Makaya is dedicated to supporting families through clear communication, empathetic guidance, and evidence-based clinical practices, ensuring that young patients and their parents feel reassured and supported throughout their care.

Her clinical practice covers a broad spectrum of paediatric hormonal, metabolic, and general health conditions. As a specialist in Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes, Dr Makaya possesses extensive expertise in diagnosing and managing growth disorders, early and delayed puberty, thyroid and adrenal conditions, and disorders of sexual development. She also specialises in childhood obesity, polycystic ovary syndrome, metabolic conditions, bone health disorders, and both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. In addition, she is deeply involved in transition endocrinology, assisting adolescents and young adults as they move seamlessly from paediatric care to adult health services.

Dr Makaya earned her primary medical degree (MBChB) before pursuing advanced academic studies, completing a Master of Medical Science (MMedSci) in Endocrinology, an MBA, and ILM management certification. Having qualified in 2000, she undertook her specialist endocrine training at Sheffield Children's Hospital and achieved dual specialist registration in Paediatrics and Paediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (FRCPCH) and serves as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Oxford, actively contributing to medical education, academic research, and healthcare quality improvement.
