About Mr Sumit Kar
Mr Sumit Kar is a Consultant Gynaecologist specialising in Laparoscopic & Hysteroscopic surgery. He is based in South London at Ramsay North Downs Hospital in Caterham and Spire St Anthony's Hospital in Cheam. He was first appointed as a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist in 2013 at Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust in Redhill.
Mr Kar obtained his primary medical qualification at Calcutta University, India in 1994 followed by his MD in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Sambalpur University in 1999. Mr Kar later moved to the UK and undertook his specialist gynaecology training across London in reputed institutions, including Bart's Health and the Leicester Royal Infirmary, completing his training in 2013. Mr Kar also holds a Certificate in Pelvic Ultrasound from the British Fertility Society, as well as a Diploma in Colposcopy from the British Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, making him an accredited Colposcopist.
Mr Kar has clinical interests in the use of laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures and the management a range of gynaecological conditions, including the following:

He has also contributed significantly in the field of academic research, including as the first author for 'A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomised Studies on Effects of Omega-3 Fatty Acids in Prevention of Early Preterm Delivery'.

I saw Dr Kar today at my 6 week post hysterectomy follow up. He very patiently answered my long list of questions with regards to recovery. He was also very reassuring about the hematoma that I developed post surgery and explained everything very clearly. I also asked him advice about HRT which he took time to talk to me about.
I had a full Hysterectomy, and from the moment I arrived I was given excellent care. I'm also very happy with how everything went during and after my surgery so thank you so much.
Good to check on my status, with more knowledge about myself and 3-4 months after procedure. Clear explanations.
My experience with Mr Kar was excellent. He talks through the expected procedure clearly and with care. He allows time for questions and concerns and you leave the consultation with confidence. On the day of my procedure he discussed everything again and I felt I was in good hands with him and his brilliant team. Mr Kar came to see me after my procedure and discussed what happened surgically. My follow up consultation was also very informative and caring. I feel so fortunate Mr Kar was my consultant/surgeon. I had waited a long time for the surgery and was very worried. Mr Kar changed this for me and I am so pleased I had the surgery. Thanks to Mr Kar I have my life back. Thank you.
