Dr Stella Smith

Dr Stella Smith is an established Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon who provides comprehensive surgical care for patients requiring both elective and emergency general procedures. With sub-speciality expertise in abdominal wall reconstruction and complex hernia repairs, she works closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, individualised care. Dr Smith is dedicated to ensuring that patients receive clear communication, reassuring guidance, and evidence-based surgical interventions tailored to their specific healthcare needs.

Dr Smith completed her undergraduate medical qualifications, earning her MBBS in 2002. She subsequently undertook higher surgical training in General Surgery and Colorectal Surgery, gaining her Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in 2013. To further expand her clinical capabilities, she completed specialised post-qualification fellowships in trauma surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction, including experience gained at a major international trauma centre. She holds professional memberships with the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland, and serves as the President of the British Hernia Society.

In her clinical practice, Dr Smith focuses on treating complex abdominal wall defects, large hernias, diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and perianal conditions, as well as handling emergency surgical presentations. In addition to her clinical commitments, she holds an academic appointment as an Honorary Senior Lecturer and leads educational charity initiatives focused on multi-professional trauma training. Dr Smith maintains an active involvement in clinical research and national quality registries designed to continuously enhance surgical care and patient outcomes.
