Dr Sophie Hambleton

Dr Sophie Hambleton is a Consultant Paediatrician specialising in Paediatric Immunology and Infectious Diseases. With extensive expertise in diagnosing and managing complex immune system disorders in young patients, she is dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based care to children and their families. Her clinical work focuses on understanding and treating inherited conditions that affect how a child's immune system defends against infection, ensuring that every young patient receives tailored clinical management suited to their individual needs.

In her clinical practice, Dr Hambleton specialises in inborn errors of immunity, primary immunodeficiencies, severe childhood infections, and complex autoimmune conditions. She plays a key role in managing children who require specialised interventions, such as bone marrow transplants and targeted genetic therapies. By applying advanced genomic techniques, including whole exome sequencing, Dr Hambleton helps identify the underlying genetic causes of immune dysregulation and susceptibility to pathogens, translating scientific insights into precise patient care.

Dr Hambleton studied Medicine at the University of Oxford before completing specialist training in Paediatric Immunology and laboratory science in the United Kingdom and the United States. She is an elected Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and contributes to prominent national organisations, including the UK Primary Immunodeficiency Network Genomics Steering Group and the Medical Research Council Infection and Immunity Board.
