About Edinburgh GP

Edinburgh GP is a fully independent private general practice offering accessible and personalised medical care in the heart of the city. The clinic is located on the corner of Randolph Place and combines Georgian architecture with modern, spacious interiors designed to create a calm and welcoming environment. Patients are greeted by Practice Manager Kirsty Wales and the reception team, with the clinic’s contemporary waiting area providing space to relax before an appointment.

The practice provides in-person consultations in state-of-the-art consultation rooms, supported by dedicated treatment rooms for specialist procedures. Patients can also choose to see their doctor by video, telephone, at home, or in their workplace, ensuring flexibility around individual needs and schedules.

Edinburgh GP places strong emphasis on continuity of care. The team is intentionally small, enabling patients to develop ongoing relationships with their preferred clinician. At the same time, the clinic’s systems and processes ensure consistent, safe and high-quality care across the team whenever a patient’s usual GP is unavailable.

Although the practice values the continuity and personal approach traditionally associated with the “old-fashioned GP”, it also integrates modern innovation into daily practice. The clinicians adopt new technologies and evidence-based treatments where these improve the patient experience or enhance the quality of care. Innovations are selected to support, rather than replace, the personalised interaction between doctor and patient.

As an independently owned and operated clinic, Edinburgh GP has no affiliations with large healthcare providers or secondary care organisations. This independence allows clinicians to refer patients to the most appropriate specialists and services based solely on clinical need.

The practice operates with a commitment to honesty and integrity, providing evidence-based guidance and ensuring that patients receive investigations and treatments that are clinically justified. Cost-effectiveness and value for money are central considerations, supported by efficient systems and a streamlined infrastructure designed to minimise unnecessary costs.

Accessibility is a priority for Edinburgh GP. The clinic aims to offer same-day face-to-face appointments during the working week and continues to expand availability as demand grows, including into evenings and weekends. The team’s objective is to provide responsive, flexible healthcare with minimal waiting times, ensuring that patients receive timely medical attention when they need it most.

Very professional and helpful. The doctor took time to explore my concerns in a non-judgemental way. He was understanding and provided me with all the help I needed. I was able to obtain the prescription within minutes of leaving. Although it is an expensive option to the NHS it is prompt, easily accessed and convenient.

I am going through a rough patch with both my physical and mental health. The staff at reception and the doctor I had my consultation with were very kind. This is definitely the best medical practice in Edinburgh and probably more widely.

Dr Robertson is a delight to see and I really appreciate the time and space of an 30 minute appointment. I feel very well cared for.

Dr Merrie was pleasant and professional. However, I would have appreciated being informed that another patient had been slotted into the first 15 minutes of my appointment, especially as I had travelled a long way to come to this appointment and had to catch a specific train home. I was also assured I would be sent the results of my blood test and still have not received these five days after my appointment. I came away feeling stressed rather than reassured.

Warm welcome from reception staff and offered coffee on arrival. The waiting area is lovely to sit in. It is spacious and relaxing. I had an appointment with Dr Williamson. Dr Williamson puts you completely at ease. When I come here the doctor really listens to my health concerns and offers great help and advice as to how to move forward with them and try to resolve any issues and concerns i may have and how to move forward with them. This is so much appreciated. I would 100% recommend this practice.

That was a very positive and fast efficient service I made a referral at midnight and received a response by 7 am the following morning the reception staff could not be more helpful and they gave me reassurance at a time of crisis. Dr Robertson was very good with my 14 year old son and very patient with us parents. also follow up steps were made clear . Thank you !
