About Dr. Shona Williamson
Dr Shona Williamson is an experienced General Practitioner with a strong portfolio career and specialist expertise in women’s health. She graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2000 and completed her GP training with distinction, becoming a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) in 2004.
Dr Williamson spent time working in a rural hospital in New Zealand before returning to Edinburgh, where she continues to practise across a range of NHS services. Alongside her general practice work, she holds a specialist post at Chalmers Sexual Health Clinic, where she provides expert care in contraception, sexual health, and women’s health medicine.
Her clinical practice is driven by a patient-centred approach, combining evidence-based care with clear communication and a warm, supportive manner. She is experienced in delivering both routine and urgent care, including out-of-hours services.
Outside her clinical roles, Dr Williamson enjoys outdoor activities, keeping active, and spending time with her two teenage children.

I always feel like Dr Williamson listens to whatever you want to talk about, I never feel rushed or stupid. The conversations are really helpful and if she is giving me guidance or suggesting different ways to do things she always does it in a really great way.
Dr Williamson is such a great doctor. She has been so helpful and really provided such good care.

Shona is an excellent all-around GP for adults and children of all ages. Her bedside manner is superb and she values making strong, lasting relationships with her patients. Shona has special interest in Women's health and is highly adept at fitting or removing Intrauterine contraception (Coils) having worked in the NHS sexual health unit at Chalmers for many years. Shona also has a special interest in preventive (lifestyle) medicine combined with advanced health screening. I couldn't recommend Shona more highly.
