Dr David Richardson completed his secondary education at a state comprehensive school in Plymouth before earning a degree in Zoology from Swansea University. Following several years of travel, he settled in New Zealand, where he trained as a mature medical student at the University of Auckland, graduating in 1998. He began his medical career in Rotorua and later gained valuable experience in Paediatrics and Emergency Medicine while working in Australia.
Returning to the UK in 2000, Dr Richardson settled in Edinburgh in 2002, developing a broad foundation across multiple hospital specialties before pursuing a career in general practice. After completing his GP training through the RCGP in 2007, he served as a full-time GP partner at West End Medical Practice for six years.
Today, Dr Richardson combines NHS and private sector roles within a diverse portfolio practice. His professional interests include patient-centred general practice, dermatology, minor skin surgery, lifestyle and health promotion, health screening, and occupational health.
Outside of medicine, he lives in central Edinburgh with his wife and two young children. An active enthusiast of cycling, sailing, and the outdoors, Dr Richardson brings his broad life experience and curiosity for people to every patient interaction.

Very friendly and helpful when talking about my visa medical!!🤩
Dr Richardson gave me a balanced and informed review of my tests. I was pleased about the balanced view of all my combined results. He didn't infantilise me.
Always listens, always understands where I’m coming from, and sees the individual instead of just a patient.
Dr Richardson was very relaxed putting me at ease. Thorough explanation prior to the medical beginning and overall a great experience.
Dr Richardson is very clearly on the ball, great communication, put me at ease right away.
I have worked alongside Dr Richardson and referred a number of my own patients to him, and I cannot recommend him highly enough. His professionalism has been exemplary in every interaction I have had with him, and the feedback I have received from the patients I have sent his way has been consistently excellent. He is thorough, considered, and most importantly, extremely caring in his approach. In other words, I have complete confidence referring people to him. One of the best GP's I've had the pleasure to know and work with!
