Dr Sofia Thoma

Dr Sofia Thoma is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in the diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management of complex musculoskeletal conditions, bone and soft tissue tumours, and acute trauma. With a clinical focus that encompasses both adult and paediatric care, Dr Thoma provides comprehensive and compassionate care for patients facing challenging orthopaedic diagnoses. Her reassuring, patient-centred approach ensures that individuals and their families receive clear communication, empathetic support, and expert guidance throughout their treatment journey.

Dr Thoma earned her Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Master of Science (MSc) degrees from the University of Athens. She completed her specialist Orthopaedic Surgery residency training in Greece, followed by prestigious sub-specialist fellowship training in Oxford and Birmingham. This extensive post-qualification training provided her with advanced expertise in musculoskeletal oncology, complex sarcoma surgery, and major trauma reconstruction.

Her clinical practice covers a wide spectrum of orthopaedic interventions, ranging from the surgical management of benign and malignant bone tumours to complex trauma care. Dr Thoma has a special clinical interest in limb preservation techniques, including the application of expandable prostheses for paediatric patients, as well as joint preservation strategies. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team of specialists, she is dedicated to delivering tailored surgical care designed to restore mobility, alleviate pain, and enhance the quality of life for her patients.
