Mr. Pregash Ellapparadja is a highly skilled Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialised focus on Soft Tissue Knee Surgery and arthroplasty, particularly joint-preserving knee surgeries and sports-related knee injuries. He currently practises within the NHS at Tameside & Glossop Integrated Foundation NHS Trust. His expertise covers a wide range of orthopaedic procedures, including total knee replacement (TKR), partial knee replacement, Patellofemoral joint knee replacement, arthroscopic surgeries of the knee(such as ACL reconstruction, meniscal repairs, and cartilage regeneration procedures), and knee joint-preserving procedures like High Tibial Osteotomy and Distal Femoral Osteotomy around the knee as well as total hip replacement (THR). He has special interest in Patello femoral joint problems (knee cap problems) offering treatment for patellar instability including MPFL (Medial Patellofemoral Ligament) , TTO (Tibial Tubercle Osteotomy) surgery as well as Trochleoplasty. He has also undergone MAKO robotic training and currently offering MAKO robotic assisted hip and knee replacements.
Mr. Ellapparadja completed his medical degree at JIPMER, one of India's premier medical schools, and subsequently completed his postgraduate orthopaedic training (M.S. Orthopaedics) in India. He then moved to the UK, where he further honed his skills. His training in the UK includes Basic Surgical Training (BST) in Wales and Higher Surgical Orthopaedic Training (HST) in the West of Scotland rotation in Glasgow. During the final year of his HST, he had the privilege of training under the renowned orthopaedic surgeon Mr. Kinninmonth at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital.
Mr. Ellapparadja's passion for knee surgery led him to be selected for the prestigious BOA (British Orthopaedic Association) transitional fellowship in Knee Osteotomy and soft tissue knee surgery, where he learned the principles of knee joint preservation through alignment restoration. Following this, he completed a sports knee fellowship under Mr. Geutjens in Derby, where he gained expertise in ligament reconstruction around the knee.
In his practice, Mr. Ellapparadja places a strong emphasis on Evidence-Based Medicine and enhanced recovery protocols for his hip and knee replacement patients, which significantly reduces their length of inpatient hospital stay. He actively contributes to the National Joint Registry (NJR) data and the UK Knee Osteotomy Registry (UKKOR).
Mr. Ellapparadja is dedicated to research and has presented at several international meetings. He currently serves as the Principal Investigator for the WHITE trial, a multicentric Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) for Neck of Femur Fractures (NOFs), with Tameside Hospital chosen as one of the participating centres. He is also the current Fracture Neck of Femur lead for Tameside Hospital. His research contributions also include publications in various international journals, such as his work on ACL reconstruction techniques in the Journal of Knee Surgery.
Mr. Ellapparadja is the educational lead for junior doctors at Tameside Hospital. He keeps himself updated by regularly attending courses and webinars to ensure that he maintains the high clinical practice standards set by the General Medical Council (GMC).
