Dr Simona Caronia

Dr Simona Caronia is a highly accomplished Consultant Gastroenterologist who is dedicated to providing exceptional care in digestive health. With a focus on endoscopy quality improvement and service development, she serves as a Clinical Lead for Endoscopy. Throughout her career, Dr Caronia has demonstrated a strong commitment to clinical governance, ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures. Her clinical practice encompasses a broad range of gastroenterological and hepatological conditions, where she combines clinical expertise with a reassuring, patient-centred approach.

Dr Caronia qualified as a Medical Doctor in Italy in 1992. Following her initial qualification, she was awarded a prestigious British Council fellowship to conduct clinical research in Cambridge. She completed her comprehensive specialist training in gastroenterology, hepatology, and endoscopy between Palermo University in Italy and a leading teaching hospital in Cambridge between 1993 and 1998. Dr Caronia subsequently relocated permanently to the United Kingdom, where she worked as a Research Fellow and Honorary Senior Registrar at a prominent London university, earning her doctorate degree (MD) in hepatology. She is a member of several professional bodies, including the Royal College of Physicians and the British Society of Gastroenterology.

Before her current appointment, Dr Caronia gained extensive experience working as a general Gastroenterologist at various hospitals in London and Surrey. Her leadership capabilities led her to the role of Clinical Director for Endoscopy for an independent healthcare provider, where she was responsible for overseeing the quality and safety of multiple endoscopy units across the United Kingdom. Dr Caronia later returned to the National Health Service (NHS) as a Consultant Gastroenterologist, where she continues to lead initiatives in endoscopy service development and quality improvement, helping to shape modern, efficient, and safe diagnostic pathways for her patients.
