Dr Samuel Oddie

Dr Samuel Oddie is a Consultant Neonatologist and Paediatrician who specialises in providing comprehensive medical care for newborn infants, particularly those born prematurely or requiring specialised intensive care. He is dedicated to delivering evidence-based clinical management to vulnerable babies while offering empathetic support to their families. Alongside his routine clinical work, Dr Oddie leads vital research initiatives designed to evaluate and improve health outcomes for neonatal patients.

Dr Oddie earned his medical degree from medical school in Leeds before completing specialist postgraduate training in Paediatrics across Newcastle, north-east England, Edinburgh, and New Zealand. He serves as an Honorary Professor at Hull York Medical School, demonstrating his commitment to academic advancement, medical research, and training the next generation of healthcare professionals. Throughout his professional career, he has maintained high standards of clinical excellence through active involvement in national audit and research programmes.

His areas of clinical expertise include neonatal intensive care, infant feeding tolerance, neonatal resuscitation, and the management of neonatal sepsis and respiratory conditions such as apnoea of prematurity. Dr Oddie has held national leadership positions, serving as a Clinical Lead for national neonatal audit projects focused on standardising care quality and minimising parental travel time during specialised care. In addition, he acts as a Principal Investigator on major clinical trials investigating advanced treatments to support gastrointestinal development in preterm infants.
