Dr. Sameer Kurmani is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at the Yorkshire Heart Centre, Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust, and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds. With over 15 years of experience, Dr. Kurmani specialises in managing adult patients with a wide range of heart conditions, with a particular focus on coronary artery disease, angina, and heart attacks.
Dr. Kurmani’s expertise encompasses general adult cardiology, addressing common issues such as palpitations, chest pain, shortness of breath, and risk factors for heart disease like blood pressure and cholesterol management. He has extensive experience in the management of coronary artery disease, including diagnostic assessments of chest pain, coronary angiography and angioplasty, as well as the care of patients with heart attacks and angina.
After studying medicine at Peterhouse, University of Cambridge, Dr. Kurmani achieved his membership of the Royal College of Physicians while working at Imperial College Hospitals in London. He was awarded an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship in the East Midlands, where he received a prestigious British Heart Foundation (BHF)-funded research grant for his work on the molecular mechanisms underlying coronary artery disease, culminating in a PhD. Dr. Kurmani completed his training in General and Interventional Cardiology at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester and was awarded the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society Fellowship. He then furthered his expertise with specialized training in structural and complex coronary intervention at Flinders Hospital in Adelaide.
As a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Dr. Kurmani performs over 250 cases annually, including diagnostic angiography, coronary physiology assessments, intravascular imaging, and advanced calcium modification techniques. He has completed more than 2,000 procedures to date, utilising state-of-the-art techniques in high-risk coronary interventions, making him a high-volume operator in percutaneous coronary intervention.
