About Dr Peter Swoboda
Dr Peter Swoboda is a Consultant Cardiologist with a specialist interest in cardiovascular imaging, currently practising across Harrogate and Leeds. He qualified in medicine (MB BS) from the University of London in 2005 and became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP UK) in 2008. He was later awarded a PhD from the University of Leeds in 2016.
Alongside his clinical role, Dr Swoboda is an Associate Professor at the University of Leeds, where he leads a research group focused on advanced cardiac MRI technologies. His work aims to improve the detection and management of a range of cardiovascular conditions, including coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, and heart failure. He also leads sports cardiology research, with a particular focus on understanding abnormal heart rhythms in athletes.
Dr Swoboda has extensive experience in assessing and treating athletes of all levels, particularly those with existing or newly identified cardiac conditions. His clinical expertise includes the evaluation of symptoms such as chest pain, breathlessness, and palpitations, as well as the management of atrial fibrillation, hypertension, and coronary artery disease. He is internationally recognised for his research into using cardiac MRI to detect subtle cardiac abnormalities, having published over 100 papers in this field.

Very professional. Discussed my options for the future
His assessment of my health issue not only calmed me he instilled confidence in the path forward. Dr Swoboda is organized and relaxed as he listened closely to my responses to his questions and previous medical history. Dr Swoboda stay on track and welcomed my wife to listened /participate in his my initial assessment.
I have found Dr Swoboda to be very generous with his time and I always feel he listens carefully to my concerns. He is particularly detailed with his responses and suggestions. I have come away from each of my consultations with a clear plan and understanding and in every instance felt clear on the next steps.
Dr Swoboda has clear empathy with his patients, in short he cares. He asks questions both open and closed to enable his forensic knowledge to elicit information. He has helped me accept my condition ,from a point of denial, and given me hope. I cannot praise him enough. The NHS and his patients are very fortunate to have him.
