Dr Nicholas Fletcher

Dr Nicholas Fletcher is an experienced consultant anaesthetist. His special interests are in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and intensive care medicine.

Dr. Fletcher undertook his medical degree at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1989 before going on to train in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine. In addition to his higher level training, he also undertook a research fellowship at St Bartholomew's and Clinical Fellowships at Harefield Hospital, UK and Royal Alfred Hospital in Sydney, Australia. After this he went on to join the anaesthetic team at St George's Hospital as a consultant.

Dr. Fletcher has worked hard throughout his career to improve services for patients and has been instrumental in establishing a perioperative echochardiography service initially starting with transoesophageal echo in cardiac theatres and then expanding this to transoesophageal and transthoracic echo in intensive care medicine; now an established service at St. George's Hospital.

In his continued drive to improve services and outcomes for patients, he has held multiple national and international roles to drive clinical improvements and promote research in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and cardiothoracic intensive care.
