Professor David G Charteris

Professor David G Charteris is a highly esteemed Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon.

Professor Charteris's medical training took place in Edinburgh, Manchester and at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. They are a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. Professor Charteris also holds memberships with several prestigious professional bodies, including the Club Jules Gonin, the British Eye Study Group, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), and the Britain and Eire Vitreoretinal Surgeons (BEAVRS).

Professor Charteris's research interests are focused on clinical and basic science research in proliferative vitreoretinopathy and complex retinal detachment. They are also interested in clinical outcomes and patient quality of life in proliferative diabetic retinopathy, macular holes, and epiretinal membrane surgery. Their other research interests include the epidemiology of retinal detachment. Professor Charteris previously held the position of Wellcome Vision Research Fellow at the Institute of Ophthalmology from 1989 to 1991.
