About

Dr Pavlidis is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Physician based at King's College Hospital in London and he also sees patients privately at the HCA The Shard and The London Bridge Hospital. Following his medical degree (University of Thessaly, Larissa, Greece, 2006) he undertook post-graduate training in London and the SE of England, working at international centres of excellence including King’s College Hospital and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. Dr Pavlidis holds a PhD in Transplantation Immunology and Mucosal Biology from King’s College London (2018). He was the NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer in Gastroenterology at King’s Health Partners from 2018 to 2021.

His clinical expertise lies in providing a holistic and personalised approach for patients with acute and chronic gastrointestinal symptoms or diseases. His subspecialty interests include conditions that may result from the interaction of the gut-brain- microbiome axis (like irritable bowel syndrome), immune mediated inflammatory bowel diseases (ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease) or following chemotherapy/immunotherapy/stem cell transplantation for cancer (graft versus host disease, checkpoint inhibitor colitis).

Dr Pavlidis is a JAG accredited endoscopist for upper and lower GI diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. As a core member of the IBD team at King’s he provides surveillance colonoscopy for patients at high risk of colorectal cancer, including those with a long diagnosis of ulcerative colitis and people with combined liver and gut inflammation like PSC-IBD.

As the Upper GI cancer, two-week-wait pathway Lead at King’s he aspires to deliver with his team a high quality, rapid diagnostics service for patients with concerning gastrointestinal symptoms. As the Clinical Governance Lead his priority is to lead the wider luminal gastroenterology team’s efforts in providing safe and evidenced base care with empathy, personalised to the individual’s needs.

Polychronis leads an ambitious translational research programme funded by major national funding streams (NIHR, MRC), charities (CCUK, Guts UK) and other stakeholders aiming to deliver stratified medicine approaches in chronic gut inflammation as well as inform evidence-based practice. He has presented his research work at national and international fora receiving multiple awards and published in high impact journals like Nature Communications, Cell Reports and Gut. He has co-authored leading national and international guidelines as well as consensus statements on personalised medicine approaches in IBD and checkpoint inhibitor induced colitis.
