I had the HoLEP procedure prior to having radiotherapy treatment for prostate cancer. I would not have come through the radiotherapy without cathetisation otherwise. My HoLEP was done as a day case and Mr Aho explained the procedure before the operation and afterwards gave me useful guidance for the following few days before the removal of the catheter. I did have a few blockages but these were resolved and I recovered well in the following weeks and enjoyed a flow such as I’d not seen for many years. My radiotherapy changed that, but gradually my flow has improved. Recent tests in the urology clinic have confirmed flow and retention to be within normal bounds. I have recently had a comprehensive and helpful review with Mr Aho. I would recommend the HoLEP procedure to any prospective patient for whom it is suitable.

Having suffered for years with a prostate that kept on growing ,& despite 2 TURP operations that failed to prevent continued growth, in great discomfort , I contacted Mr Aho ,who suggested a HoLEP operation to correct the problem. My life has been turned around. Gone are the catheters ,the awkwardness, embarrassment & discomfort, so thank you for the excellent treatment & my life back.

Mr Tev Aho was helpful and courteous at all stages of the procedure. He explained what the surgery entailed and outlined what I would experience at each stage, including the recovery. Thanks to his skill there were no complications and I felt the benefit of the operation within days. I appreciated that Mr Aho spoke to me personally, to enquire if I had any concerns, in the follow-up consultation. I am delighted with the outcome - for the first time in many years I can go on a journey or attend a concert without the anxiety of wondering how I will cope.

I was referred to Mr. Aho by an urologist in Newcastle recommended by my conslutant in Glasgow. My first contact with Mr. Aho was via Zoom conference calland it reassured me I was on the right track. At the time I was recovering from a urinary blockage and had a catheter. We booked the surgery for a date less than a month from the original consultation and 3 weeks before the surgery the catheter was successfully removed at Royal Alexandra Infirmary in Glasgow. We flew to London on March 16th 2023 and had a pre-op consultation at the Princess Grace Hospital on the 17th. I was interned at the Hospital on the morning of the 18th when Mr. Aho and the anesthetist briefed me on how the surgery would occurr. I was sedated and woke up later in the afternoon when Mr. Aho made his post op call and I was informed that everything went well in the surgery. After passing urine 3 times on the morning of the 19th I was discharged from the hospital wearing an incontinence nappy and went for lunch with the family as my daughter and family live in London. We flew back to Glasgow the following morning and after 3 days I was able to do away with the incontinence nappies. Bleeding stopped completely after 3 weeks and urinary function was totally normal afte that period. Mr. Aho's conduct throughout the process was excellent inspiring confidence and optimism. I am truly grateful to Mr. Aho and extremely pleased with the outcome of the intervention. It represents a great improvement in my quality of life as it enables me to pursue activities away from immediate medical help, which was something I was hesitant to do given the risk of having a urinary blockage requiring hospitalization to resolve.

Mr Avo put me completely at ease on our first meeting. He explained thoroughly what was involved in the operation giving me the benefits and risks of having the HOLEP surgery. The operation lasted about an hour and was successful with no pain afterwards. The timeline Mr Aho gave me for full recovery was very much in line with his predictions. I would certainly recommend Mr Aho to anyone thinking of having HOLEP for BPH. Mr Aho is an amazing surgeon and has changed my life for the better
