About Mr Daniel Swallow

I'm a consultant urological surgeon, and I look after both adults and children across London and Chelmsford.

Most of my surgical work falls into two areas. The first is holmium laser enucleation of the prostate, usually shortened to HoLEP. It treats an enlarged prostate that is getting in the way of passing urine, and it's carried out with a laser through a telescope, so there are no cuts on the outside. It works across the full range of prostate sizes, including larger glands that are harder to treat by other methods, and I teach the technique to other surgeons as a faculty member on the Cambridge HoLEP course.

The second is kidney stone surgery. I use laser and keyhole techniques to clear stones, and I spend time afterwards on why they formed and what can reduce the chance of another one.

Beyond that, I assess raised PSA results, investigate blood in the urine, and treat bladder symptoms and recurrent urine infections in both men and women. I also have a longstanding interest in children's urology.

I always have a clear and open conversation with my patients: what is going on, what the realistic options are, what I would suggest, and enough time to ask questions.

A lot of what I see is the kind of thing people find awkward to bring up. They are ordinary conversations for me, and no one should put off getting something looked at because they feel embarrassed about it.

I consult in English and French.
