Mr Sandy Gujral

Mr Sandeep Gujral is a Consultant Urological Surgeon and designated Pelvic Urology Surgeon, who regularly undertakes complex bladder and prostate surgery for cancer and benign conditions having completed over 200 radical prostatectomy operations for prostate cancer, 100 radical cystectomy operations for bladder cancer and 200 laparoscopic and open kidney removal operations. He is Lead Clinician for urological cancers (specifically for prostate cancer diagnostics and robotic arm prostatectomy) at his NHS Trust and has pioneered laparoscopic urology surgery by carrying out the first laparoscopic nephrectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy at Harold Wood Hospital in 2003, in addition to taking a lead on introducing enhanced recovery programmes for pelvic surgery.

Dr Gujral ha extensive training in surgery and urology, from the prestigious UK training programmes in Oxford and Bristol, additionally, undertaking training visits to Philadelphia, USA, through a competitive British Urological Foundation Fellowship.

Outside his clinical work, Dr Gujral has a significant interest in urology research, publishing over 50 peer-reviewed papers, including one of the largest published trials of laser surgery on the prostate "CLasP trial" and has given over 100 national and international presentations.

Dr Gujral is a member of the London Cancer Urology Pathway Board as the lead surgeon for bladder cancer and the Urology Tutor, Founding Foundation Programme Director, Post Graduate Deanery Clinical Tutor and the Director of Medical Education of BHRUHT. He has been on the FRCS (Urology) Standard Settings Committee for five years and an elected member of the Invited Review Mechanism at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
