Mr Andrew Ballaro has over 18 years of experience as a Consultant Urological surgeon and covers North London and Essex in private practice in addition to holding a full time London NHS post. He specialises in the fields of laser surgery for kidney stones, surgery for the benign enlarged prostate and urinary retention and is highly experineced in all aspects of adult general urological surgery.
He offers a range of procedures for enlarged prostate issues including TURP, laser prostatectomy (HOLEP), minimally invasive REZUM steam therapy and Aquablation and is expert at MRI-fusion template prostate biopsies - the most minimally invasive and precise method of detecting prostate cancer. He also offers the EpiSwitch blood test for prostate cancer.
Mr Ballaro began his medical training at The Royal Free Hospital Medical School, following his qualification he undertook a Master's in Urology, and a Doctorate in Medicine in Clinical Sciences from The Institute of Urology, University College London. He was awarded several research fellowships and a Hunterian Professorship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He then undertook five years of Higher Specialist Training in Urology on the North London Training Rotation, and further developed his skills by undertaking training in complex stone and prostate surgery with internationally renowned experts.
Mr Ballaro regularly publishes nationally leading surgical outcomes for kidney stone surgery. He has also published extensively on complex stone removal operations, minimally invasive surgical techniques, and the basic science of bladder dysfunction. He trains urological surgeons at all levels, is invited to present his finding at conferences, has contributed to several textbooks and is co-editor of the standard medical student urology textbook- Lecture notes in urology.
Mr Ballaro has been approved by and works with all major insurance companies. His private practice is highly regarded, attracts very high patient satisfaction scores (96% on PHIN) and is supported by a professional and responsive management team. This practice aims to provide the best comprehensive private patient experience available to patients with urological problems. Mr Ballaro also has a growing medicolegal practice as an expert witness for urology cases, and gives an expert second opinion.
