Mr Sam Datta is a Consultant Urologist based in Essex. He helps people with problems affecting the kidneys, bladder, prostate and genital area. He looks after men and women.
He sees private patients at Springfield Hospital in Chelmsford and Oaks Hospital in Colchester. He also works closely with the local NHS trust (East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust), so your care is joined up from your first visit to your last.
How Mr Datta can help you?
If you are worried about a urinary problem, Mr Datta can see you quickly, find out what is wrong, and explain your options in plain language. He treats:
• Kidney stones – removed with modern keyhole (minimally invasive) surgery, so most patients recover quickly
• Prostate problems, including a raised PSA blood test result, those who have problems with a catheter or waking up at night.
• Blood in the urine (haematuria)
• Urine infections that keep coming back
• Bladder problems in women, such as leaking or needing to urinate too often
• Erectile dysfunction (trouble getting or keeping an erection)
Why patients choose Mr Datta:
• Fast appointments and quick answers – worrying symptoms are checked without a long wait
• Clear explanations – you will always understand what is happening and what comes next
• Gentle, modern treatments – keyhole techniques mean less pain and a faster recovery
• Care suitable for the whole family – men and women, with gentle techniques for patients with medical conditions or who are older.

Great service and totally focused on my wellbeing. Professional and dedicated
I was referred to Mr Sam Datta as I had a small kidney stone. I had previously had a stent fitted while on a trip to Germany as I was taken ill whilst there. Upon my return, I was referred to a consultant urologist who then contacted Mr Datta. I had a consultation with Mr Datta and he fitted me into his surgery schedule within four days. I saw Mr Datta on the morning of my operation and we had a lovely reassuring conversation regarding the procedure. He was going to remove the stent and the stone in one go as the stone had stuck itself to the stent so I was unable to pass it naturally. When I woke from the operation I was virtually pain free. I had been suffering with lower abdominal pain ever since I got the stone and to wake up without it was fantastic. I had a little discomfort from the procedure itself but this passed within twenty four hours. I cannot praise Mr Datta enough. I had a follow up scan and then a final consultation and I was cleared of any more stones or kidney problems. So from my first consultation through to the actual operation and follow up care, I cannot thank Mr Datta enough. An excellent professional and a lovely human being.
Mr Datta made what was an incredibly frightening and painful experience so much easier to cope with. I was diagnosed with a large kidney stone after an excruciatingly painful visit to A&E. I met Mr Datta a few days later, and he explained everything clearly and arranged for me to undergo a ureteroscopy just 14 days later, with seven days of pre-operative antibiotics beforehand. On admission to The Oaks, I was welcomed by friendly reception staff before being shown to a clean, comfortable room. The nursing team were kind, knowledgeable and carried out all my pre-operative checks with professionalism and compassion. The anaesthetist took the time to explain everything, and Mr Datta came to see me beforehand for a reassuring chat, which really helped put me at ease. Once I was in theatre, the whole team were incredibly friendly and reassuring. The last thing I remember hearing was, "Don't worry, we're going to take care of you." The next thing I knew, the procedure was over, and I genuinely felt as though I'd had the best sleep ever. The aftercare was equally outstanding. I was back home by late afternoon, and every follow-up appointment arranged by Mr Datta's secretary went smoothly and efficiently. I cannot rate Mr Datta and his entire team highly enough. Their professionalism, expertise, kindness and compassion made a very difficult experience so much easier. Thank you all for taking such wonderful care of me.
The whole process has been very positive from start to finish. Mr Datta explained everything every step of the way and made me feel at ease. Great communication from his team kept me informed and up to date with my progress.
