Teaching Hospitals since 2005, having focussed on foot and ankle surgery from
early in his career, he trained with the most distinguished experts in
Yorkshire and the Midlands, and is FRCSEd in Trauma and Orthopaedics. He has 16
years experience in private practice at Leeds Nuffield Hospital, the only private hospital
in West Yorkshire rated 'outstanding' by the CQC .
Graduated Mb ChB from The University of Edinburgh Medical School in 1991,
with post graduate training in Orthopaedics, he became a Fellow of the Royal
College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in 2004,
completing specialist training in Foot and Ankle Surgery at Birmingham Royal
Orthopaedic Hospital.
A painful ankle has many possible causes, from joint instability to arthritis,
and it is possible to treat almost every problem, relieve pain and restore
function. Mr Monkhouse treats the entire range of foot and ankle problems, with
a special interest in sports injuries, persistent pain after an ankle injury -
or just exercise, joint instability, midfoot pain or pain in the ball of the
foot when standing. Other specialist interests include the surgical management,
tendon transfers and selective joint fusions, of neuromuscular deformities of
the foot and ankle, whether from stroke, congenital degenerative nerve problems,
cerebral palsy or nerve injury.
Mr Monkhouse treats traumatic injuries of feet, ankles and Achilles tendons.
He also manages foot and ankle arthritis and undertakes procedures like hallux valgus surgery, bunionectomy, toe straightening, ankle ligament repair/ reconstruction, ankle keyhole surgery, Achilles tendon surgery, and major joint fusions (ankle, hindfoot and midfoot).
In an extensive and wide ranging career he is committed to his belief that
good foot health is the foundation of a person's general health and wellbeing.
Mr Monkhouse graduated MB ChB from Edinburgh University Medical School in 1991.
He completed his orthopaedic training on the Yorkshire Orthopaedic Training Rotation and obtained his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in Orthopaedics in 2005. The last three years in Foot and Ankle Surgery including a six month Foot and Ankle Fellowship at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham.
Mr Monkhouse became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in 2004.
