Mr Rajan Patel

Mr. Rajan Patel is a skilled Consultant Surgeon with a wealth of experience in colorectal disorders and general surgery. He graduated from the Welsh National School of Medicine in Cardiff in 1984 and obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS) in 1989. Mr. Patel completed his surgical training in South Wales and the West Midlands, with additional training in Minneapolis, USA, in 1996.

Since 1998, Mr. Patel has served as an NHS consultant surgeon at Russells Hall Hospital, where he has played a pivotal role in establishing laparoscopic colorectal and hernia surgery, as well as the enhanced recovery program. This program focuses on facilitating faster recovery with reduced pain for patients undergoing surgery.

In addition to his clinical work, Mr. Patel is actively involved in research, particularly in the fields of cytokines and adhesion molecules in ulcerative colitis and sepsis. His research endeavours have earned him a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the University of Birmingham in 1995. Mr. Patel has contributed extensively to the medical literature through research papers and clinical publications, earning several prizes, research bursaries, and travel scholarships. He also serves as a reviewer for the British Journal of Surgery and as an Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Mr. Patel offers comprehensive management of bowel disorders, including colorectal cancer, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and diverticular disease, among others. He specialises in various surgical procedures, such as laparoscopic surgery, colonoscopy, operations for colon and rectal cancer, anal fistula, anal fissure, and haemorrhoid surgery using the THD procedure.
