Mr Philip Bearn is a colorectal and general surgeon who has been based at Ashford & St. Peter's Hospitals (ASPH) NHS Foundation Trust since 1999.
His colorectal surgery includes diagnostic procedures such as colonoscopy as well as the treatment of benign and malignant disease with minimally invasive (laparoscopic) methods.
His general surgery includes abdominal pain investigation and treatment, abdominal wall hernias (including groin, umbilical, and incisional), groin pain, and benign skin lesions.
Mr Bearn has experience treating colorectal cancer, haemorrhoidal and fistula problems, inflammatory bowel disease, and pelvic floor disorders (faecal incontinence, constipation, and obstructive defecation syndrome). He also works closely with Mr Shaheen Khazali at The Lister Hospital to treat patients with endometriosis of the colon and rectum.
He completed his post-graduate training at Guys Hospital, University College Hospital, Middlesex Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital, and the Post Graduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital. He also has a master's degree in surgery from the University of London. Prior to joining ASPH, Mr Bearn worked as a consultant at the Good Hope Hospital NHS Trust Sutton Coldfield from 1995 to 1999.
Mr Bearn is also an honorary senior lecturer in biomedical sciences at Royal Holloway College, University of London where he teaches gastro-intestinal modules to final-year students. He is also the Clinical Chair at BMI The Princess Margaret Hospital and a Joint Colorectal Cancer Lead for the Surgery and Sussex Cancer Alliance, where he is involved in the management of colorectal cancer and guidelines across the region. He is also a colorectal disease technical editor and lectures at the Royal College of Surgeons in England on the Definitive Surgical Trauma Course.
Mr Bearn is a father of four and enjoys working out at the gym and playing veterans' football games. He also has a passion for classic cars and motorcycles.
