I visited Mr Gikas for a second opinion, having been told I needed a full hip replacement. He considered my symptoms and MRI scan and said he believed the pain likely resulted from issues with the nerves in my spine. He referred me to a spine specialist who confirmed the diagnosis. Following physiotherapy, I am now pain free. I was particularly impressed at Mr Gikas's ability to look beyond his own specialism and consider my situation holistically. As a result he saved me from a completely unnecessary operation.

Mr Gikas applied the most advanced procedures to my hip replacement. I was surprised the first time I saw the surgical incision after the operation. It was much shorter than I’d imagined: only 3cm long, evidence of his muscle sparing ‘micro-anterior’ approach. I was able to walk straightaway without crutches or any other supporting device. Another surprise was the pain management. I took paracetamol and an anti-inflammatory for 10 days after the operation and that was it. I never needed anything stronger. I am very grateful for his technical mastery and dedication to achieving the best possible surgical outcomes for his patients. On the day, I felt completely safe in the care of the skilled theatre team working with Mr Gikas. And may I also thank Mr Gikas’ excellent secretary, he sorted my queries out with humour and efficiency.
