I could not recommend Mr Mokawem enough after the treatment and care he has given me for my scoliosis. Every appointment we had, we are always approached with a reassuring and calm manner, and feeling fully informed on our possible options. We were meant to go ahead with surgery, yet after the Multi-Disciplinary Meeting took place, we were told that in my current position, they should not operate until further investigation had taken place. This just shows how incredible this team is, willing to postpone the surgery as something was not quite adding up. However, after thorough investigation, the surgery went ahead. He always left me choice throughout this process, listing all of the benefits and drawbacks of each stage. I was operated on at the RNOH, and almost every day, Mr Mokawem would come and see me. On around day 3, he came in and asked me if I wanted to stand and go for a short walk. I didn’t as this was one of the days I felt the most sore, but after some time chatting with him, he reassured me and supported me to push myself. I could not be more grateful for Mr Mokawem and his team’s care, and would highly recommend him to anyone! He has been hugely reassuring both to me and my parents.

Mr Mokawem was conscientious, answered concerns promptly and took great care, even coming in on a Sunday evening to check and replace a vac dressing. To say he goes the extra mile is not praise enough.

After suffering with a slipped disc for 6 weeks I was recommended to see Mr Mokawem, who was charming, sympathetic and I knew I was in safe hands. He explained in thorough detail what my options were and discussed the best way forward was an operation. I am now pain free. Thank you very much Mr Mokawem.

Throughout my experience with Mr Mokawem, I felt completely respected, listened to and reassured. Unlike other experiences I have had, there was no element of superiority and 'tell' rather than 'explain'. Mr Mokawem took the time to listen to my questions, respond thoroughly and clearly with appropriate detail and information. He responded very positively and effectively to a particular concern I had, going out of his way to research and recommend a particular form of aftercare which was different to the standard approach. My outcomes have been outstanding and have exceeded my expectations. I attribute that to the speed in setting up the surgery from first meeting Mr Mokawem, his expert and considered assessment and ultimately the effectiveness of the surgery and ongoing care of Mr Mokawem and his team. I would also call out the supporting staff in terms of responding to my emails. This all made for a stress-free and supportive experience. I am very grateful.

I found Mr Mokawem to be Extremely calm, confident, professional, patient, clear in explaining procedure & reassuring (absolutely ideal). The subsequent spinal operation gave me an ideal outcome - from being unable to walk more than 50 metres, for almost a year (due to a large disc protrusion, which was pinching my spinal nerve column and giving pain), to being able to stand straight and walk without any discomfort the next day. As a 62 year old, I will once again be able to cycle & walk long distances and play golf. (This review is after 8 weeks, which is about the time it took to feel completely recovered in myself, although I have been told to take it easy for about 3-4 months in total - I experienced no infection or issues throughout the healing period). I have therefore had an ideal outcome and am extremely thankful for my choice in Mr Mokawem.

In my opinion, Mr Mokawem is an amazing consultant and someone that is a master of his field. He spoke with sheer confidence about the procedure to me before my surgery and reassured me that I would be in good hands. And indeed I was. If I were to have to do the procedure again, I would be grateful to have Mr Mokawem as my surgeon. Post-surgery he asked me about my condition and checked up on me which shows how he puts his patients first. I would certainly recommend this consultant.
