About Mr David Redfern
Mr David Redfern is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals. He studied in London and trained in London and Cambridge. He then undertook subspecialist fellowships at Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, USA), and in Bristol at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre.
Mr Redfern has extensive experience in the management of foot and ankle disorders, trauma and sports injuries, including arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgery. He has performed thousands of foot and ankle operations and is an internationally recognised expert who has developed minimally invasive and less invasive techniques in these areas. He is particularly renowned for his contributions to bunion surgery and the treatment of complex forefoot and hindfoot problems. Together with a French colleague, he invented the MICA technique (Minimally Invasive Chevron Akin) for correcting bunions using keyhole surgery which has been adopted by surgeons worldwide.
Mr David Redfern is actively involved in education and training and has trained more than 150 surgeons worldwide. He is also chair of the Minimally Invasive Surgery Committee of the European Foot and Ankle Society.

Visited to see Mr David Redfern about an issue that I have with my achilles tendon. I was seen on time, and he listened to what my issues were and performed an examination. He then discussed what the best next steps would be and referred me to a colleague for assessment and a possible high volume injection into my achilles tendon.
Mr. Redfern is a warm character and highly professional. He did a fantastic job at explaining my situation and options, and I felt very well informed by the visit. He answered my questions in detail, and had a clear focus on pragmatism and ensuring the best possible outcome from any procedure.
Excellent . Initial visit extremely helpful . x ray carried out immediately (not via subsequent appointment). Diagnosis very clear and helpful as well as a very good and concise explanation of my treatment options. Excellent all around.

He was excellent in every way. He had a superior knowledge of the issue I was presenting with, did a thorough physical exam and ordered further tests to pinpoint the problem. He was courteous and approachable and an excellent communicator. I feel as though I am in good hands, finally, w/ this orthopedic issue (for which I've seen several doctors in the past), and I am confident that a surgery performed by him on it will result in success and alleviate the pain I have been living w/ for too long.
