About Mr David Redfern

Mr David Redfern is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals. He studied in London and trained in London and Cambridge. He then undertook subspecialist fellowships at Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, USA), and in Bristol at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre.

Mr Redfern has extensive experience in the management of foot and ankle disorders, trauma and sports injuries, including arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgery. He has performed thousands of foot and ankle operations and is an internationally recognised expert who has developed minimally invasive and less invasive techniques in these areas. He is particularly renowned for his contributions to bunion surgery and the treatment of complex forefoot and hindfoot problems. Together with a French colleague, he invented the MICA technique (Minimally Invasive Chevron Akin) for correcting bunions using keyhole surgery which has been adopted by surgeons worldwide.

Mr David Redfern is actively involved in education and training and has trained more than 150 surgeons worldwide. He is also chair of the Minimally Invasive Surgery Committee of the European Foot and Ankle Society.

Everything was made very easy with the clinic and Dr Redfern in particular. The post care from staff was very thorough and nothing was too much trouble. The op was very successful despite another surgeon’s more invasive recommendation and the post surgery healing was very quick and easy. Would highly recommend the clinic and most importantly Dr Redfern.

Overall an excellent experience with Mr Redfern. He did not rush me to surgery as a first option. Rather, he explained surgery should be a last resort after all other options were fully explored. Having done so, he then succinctly and clearly guided me through the surgical procedure, risks and likely outcomes. Six months on from the surgery I am very pleased with the outcome. I am ambulatory again and without pain. A very satisfactory outcome all round from excellent care.

Mr Redfern is professional, kind and patient. I was very happy with the whole process and the results of my foot surgery have been excellent. At 9 weeks, I have been able to resume most of my regular activities without any of the intense pain I was experiencing before. Thank you Mr Redfern

I had surgery with Mr Redfern to treat arthritis in my big toes on both feet, and couldn’t be more pleased with the experience. The care at the Cleveland Clinic was first class throughout. I had previously seen another surgeon who didn’t inspire confidence, but Mr Redfern was the complete opposite—knowledgeable, professional, and authoritative. From the outset, I felt completely reassured. At every stage, I knew I was in safe hands. I’m very grateful for the care I received and would highly recommend Mr Redfern.

I couldn’t have asked for better care throughout my appointments leading up to, during and after surgery.
