Dr Melissa Whitworth

Dr Melissa Whitworth is an experienced Consultant Obstetrician specialising in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Dedicated to delivering compassionate, patient-centred care, she supports women through all stages of pregnancy, labour, and delivery. Her clinical focus centres on offering reassuring guidance, tailored management plans, and evidence-based care to promote the health and well-being of both mother and child.

Her areas of clinical interest encompass maternal-foetal medicine and the management of high-risk pregnancies. Dr Whitworth has expertise in running specialist clinics for women at risk of preterm labour, managing diabetes in pregnancy, and providing dedicated care for socially complex pregnancies, including specialised support services for pregnant teenagers. In addition to her direct patient care, she actively leads research initiatives and clinical trials in reproductive health and childbirth, contributing to national clinical guideline development.

Dr Whitworth graduated with her medical degree (MBChB with Honours) from the University of Manchester in 1995. She completed higher clinical training across Manchester and Liverpool and earned her Doctorate of Medicine (MD) research degree from the University of Manchester in 2000. She is a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) and serves on the committee of the British Maternal and Foetal Medicine Society.
