Dr Matthew Wiggans

Dr Matthew Wiggans is a dedicated Consultant General Surgeon who specialises in upper gastrointestinal procedures and general abdominal surgery. With a strong commitment to delivering high-quality, compassionate care, he provides individualised treatment plans for patients presenting with a wide range of general surgical and gastrointestinal conditions. Dr Wiggans incorporates advanced minimally invasive techniques into his clinical practice to support optimal surgical outcomes and swift patient recovery.

Dr Wiggans earned his undergraduate medical degree with honours in London before completing higher specialty training in upper gastrointestinal surgery in the South West of England. He further developed his academic and clinical foundation by attaining a Doctor of Medicine research degree focused on surgical outcomes, alongside completing a surgical trauma fellowship in South Africa. A committed educator and GMC-recognised trainer, Dr Wiggans holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education with Merit and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He has also held prominent leadership and advisory positions within national and international hernia societies and surgical guidance panels.

Throughout his career, Dr Wiggans has maintained a major clinical focus on complex and keyhole hernia repair, upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, and biliary tract surgery. He routinely performs advanced laparoscopic procedures, including gallstone removal, intraoperative biliary ultrasound, and bile duct exploration.
