Mr. Marcus Cumberbatch is a Consultant Urological Surgeon and Senior Clinical Lecturer. He achieved his MBBS from University College London (UCL) in 2008. Following his undergraduate studies, Mr. Cumberbatch underwent Foundation Training in the Nottingham deanery in 2010. During this period, he gained experience in vascular and orthopaedic surgery. His exceptional talents were acknowledged when he secured a highly competitive Academic Clinical Fellowship funded through the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) from the Yorkshire deanery.
Mr. Cumberbatch was granted an Academic Clinical Lectureship by the NIHR in 2018. He has continued to receive accolades in the field of medicine, receiving the Ellison-Cliffe Foundation Award from the Royal Society of Medicine in 2019. This award allowed him to spend a year in Melbourne, Australia, where he gained expertise in robot-assisted surgery and novel cancer diagnostics.
Throughout his career, Mr. Cumberbatch has provided exceptional patient care and has been an active contributor to medical research. He has presented his work at various international conferences in countries such as Japan, Spain, and Denmark. Since 2015, he has been a member of the European prostate cancer guideline panel.
Mr. Cumberbatch is a principal investigator on several NIHR portfolio clinical trials. These trials investigate the application of robotics in minimally invasive surgery, patient outcome measures, and cancer screening. He has authored more than 45 research papers in high-impact journals and is internationally recognised for his expertise in cancer epidemiology.
In his capacity as a Consultant Urological Surgeon, Mr. Cumberbatch leads the regional uro-oncology Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) and oversees the foundation doctor program for urology. He practises at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield and holds the position of Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sheffield.
