About Mr Christopher Challand
Mr. Christopher Challand is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, a position he has held since 2016. Specialising in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) bowel resection surgery, he also has significant expertise in incisional hernia repair and complex abdominal wall reconstruction. Mr. Challand is a JAG-certified lower gastrointestinal endoscopist, offering a wide range of investigations and treatments for common abdominal and colorectal conditions, including rectal bleeding and bowel disturbances.
Mr. Challand completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Bristol and gained extensive surgical experience working in the South West, particularly in Plymouth and Bristol. He undertook higher surgical training at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge within the East of England Deanery.
In addition to his clinical practice, Mr. Challand has contributed to clinical research aimed at improving outcomes for patients undergoing major colorectal bowel resections. His research is widely published in the fields of colorectal and general surgery. He has been both Clinical Lead for General Surgery and Colorectal Surgery at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and played a pivotal role in enhancing surgical practices and patient care.

You never want to need to visit a doctor but dr challand made the visit a good one . Very amiable and attention with clear advice and guidance .
During my initial consultation, surgery and follow up appointments Mr.Challand has always been friendly, reassuring and very informative regarding my diagnosis, treatment plan and surgical procedure needed. He always displayed great professionalism and I feel I have received the ‘Gold Standard’ of medical treatment! Thankyou Also on a lighter note Mr Challand even recommended a great tv series to watch during my recovery time to treat the boredom
I recently visited Mr Challand (Jan 2026) for an initial consultation to discuss some post childbearing issues (haemorrhoid's). Mr Challand was amazing from start to finish, he made me feel so at ease in a subject that is so personal to myself. Mr Challand thoroughly explained all treatment options in a professional manner yet in layman’s terms so that I understood fully what treatment operations are available and the full extent of my condition. The appointment was not rushed and Mr Challand answered all my questions at a high level and has made me feel so at ease.
