About Mr Manjit Mehat
Manjit Mehat is an award-winning eye surgeon who specialises in cataract and retinal surgery, including floaters, macular hole, epiretinal membrane and retinal detachment surgery. He also manages patients for the medical treatment of retinal conditions, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and blood vessel disorders of the retina.
Manjit has undertaken 8-years of advanced surgical and research training at the world renowed Moorfields Eye Hospital. This included a two-years retinal surgery fellowship where he performed complex retinal and cataract surgery.
Mr. Mehat has research expertise in retinal disease with a particular focus on the application of gene and stem-cell therapy to treat blindness. He is currently chief surgeon for the first retinal gene therapy trial in Edinburgh. Manjit has also been a senior investigator in the world's first gene therapy trial, published in the New England Journal of Medicine (2015) and more recently he was lead author for the first European trial for stem-cell transplantation for inherited macular degeneration.
Mr. Mehat's NHS practice is currently based at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavillion in Edinburgh and consults privately at the Spire Shawfair, Vision Scotland and The Edinburgh Clinic.

From being very apprehensive I was soon put completely at ease. A very professional procedure which I would definitely recommend.
Consultation vidit and procedure to remove cataracts was excellent.
Everything was explained and carried out as per the explanation
My whole experience was very good. I was very nervous about what would happen. All members of staff were extremely kind. Everything was carefully explained to me about what would happen. My eye drops were colour coded for each eye so I didn't mix them up. I was given contact phone numbers in case I had any problems.
Manjit put me at ease from the minute we met. His polite and caring manner instantly helped to relieve any concerns I had about undergoing eye surgery. He patientiently answered all my queries and put me at total ease clarifying the different procedures. Manjit and Clare then helped me choose the best option for my circumstances by explaining each option clearly, outlining what I could expect from each as well as any possible complications. Every detail of my chosen procedure was then explained fully and I therefore knew exactly what I should expect on the day of surgery as well as recovery expectations and beyond. I can't thank Manjit enough.
