About Mr Manjit Mehat
Manjit Mehat is an award-winning eye surgeon who specialises in cataract and retinal surgery, including floaters, macular hole, epiretinal membrane and retinal detachment surgery. He also manages patients for the medical treatment of retinal conditions, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and blood vessel disorders of the retina.
Manjit has undertaken 8-years of advanced surgical and research training at the world renowed Moorfields Eye Hospital. This included a two-years retinal surgery fellowship where he performed complex retinal and cataract surgery.
Mr. Mehat has research expertise in retinal disease with a particular focus on the application of gene and stem-cell therapy to treat blindness. He is currently chief surgeon for the first retinal gene therapy trial in Edinburgh. Manjit has also been a senior investigator in the world's first gene therapy trial, published in the New England Journal of Medicine (2015) and more recently he was lead author for the first European trial for stem-cell transplantation for inherited macular degeneration.
Mr. Mehat's NHS practice is currently based at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavillion in Edinburgh and consults privately at the Spire Shawfair, Vision Scotland and The Edinburgh Clinic.

As I expected, from reading reviews beforehand, all my appointments with Mr Mehat were good. He took care to ensure I understood everything. He was very reassuring and friendly, as were all other staff.
A little disappointing given that we were unable to carry out the planned procedure. No fault of Manjit’s. The only explanations from both Clare and Manjit were straight to the point and crystal clear on what the problem was and what remedial action was needed
Mr Mehat was excellent in every way. Friendly, informative and professional. Any concerns that I had were immediately addressed and resolved. Throughout the whole process I was impressed and reassured by his manner.
Excellent. The only hiccups were the delay going for the op, due to a shortage of nursing staff apparently, and the fact that I did not appreciate the speed with which cataract would develop in the operated eye.
Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. I felt well informed, looked after and cared for during my whole experience. My cataract removal and lens replacement surgery went very smoothly and has been game changing for me. I have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

A calming experience. All procedures were explained and any worries addressed. He had an excellent bedside manner.
