About Vision Scotland Edinburgh

Vision Scotland Edinburgh is a leading provider of eye care services in Edinburgh, Scotland. They offer a wide range of services, including:

· Cataract Surgery: A quick and usually pain free procedure where the natural lens is gently broken down and replaced with an artificial lens. This is performed when the natural lens becomes cloudy, making it difficult to see.

· Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE): Like cataract surgery, it replaces the natural lens with an artificial lens implant. RLE is performed to reduce the need for glasses or contact lenses.

· YAG Laser: After Cataract Surgery or RLE, a natural process of scarring can occur causing the posterior section of the lens to thicken, blurring vision. This is called Posterior Capsule Opacification (PCO) and is treated with YAG Laser Capsulotomy. The procedure is quick and painless, carried out as an outpatient with immediate

results.

· Implantable Lens Surgery: Implantable contact lenses are inserted either in front of the pupil or behind the iris for vision correction without removing the natural lens.

· Laser Eye Surgery: What are regarded as the two top forms of Laser Eye Surgery are offered here – LASEK & LASIK. Laser Eye Surgery is a quick procedure and removes the requirement for glasses.

· Oculoplasty: Includes lifts of the upper or lower lids (Blephoplasty), drooping of the upper eyelid (Ptosis), correction of eyelids turning outward or inward (Ectropian/Entropian), lumps & bumps (generally a stye or chalazion) which can usually be treated as an outpatient procedure and Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery to tighten the skin around the eyes and restore a more youthful appearance.

· Corneal Disorders: Conditions such as Keratoconus, Keratitis

& Corneal Dystrophy are treated. Treatments include Corneal Cross-linking and Photo-therapeutic Keratectomy (PTK). Other disorders are managed with medication and regular review.

· Macular Degeneration Treatment: A condition that affects a small area at the centre of the retina, affecting central vision and colour. Symptoms include blurred vision with straight lines appearing wavy and objects appearing to be an unusual size or shape. Treatments are used to slow the progression and protect you from severe

visual impairment. We offer Eylea & Avastin injections for this.

· Glaucoma Care: Diagnosis and management of Glaucoma, a condition more common with age. Symptoms are few to being with but left untreated can cause damage to the back of the eye, peripheral vision problems and blindness.

· Diabetic Eye Care: Diabetic Retinopathy occurs over a long period of time when high blood sugars damage the small blood vessels that supply the retina. Screening and treatment for diabetic eye disease is offered including laser treatment, eye injections or surgery known as Vitreoretinal Surgery.

Vision Scotland Edinburgh is committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care. Their team of experienced eye care professionals is dedicated to helping patients achieve their best possible vision and with an external contact centre available out of normal opening hours, they are available to be contacted anytime.

I was very apprehensive and a bit scared before my consultation . The thought of someone touching my eyes and something going wrong had me worried. I needn’t have been worried. As soon as I turned up for my consultation the reception staff that I spoke to firstly were so friendly and welcoming. They put me right at ease. From that first meeting right through to my surgery all the staff were brilliant. They made sure I was fully aware of what was going to take place regarding my eye surgery. Any questions I may have had were answered fully and clearly. The surgery itself was painless . My aftercare was explained clearly to me. The amount of information I received from start to my aftercare was excellent. I wouldn’t hesitate to fully encourage others to have this procedure done and I would highly recommend Vision Scotland. Keep us the excellent service that you provide. On very satisfied customer.

The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. Everything was well explained, before and after the operation. The operation went smoothly, but I knew there was a phone number to ring if there were any problems, so that was reassuring. The care given at every point was incredible. it was the best decision I made to get the operation as my life has completely changed now I can see again. If I hadn't done this I would still have been waiting for at least another year, unable to drive and enjoy my hobbies. Thank you to everyone!

Good experience but I was told by a nurse just after the operations that I could use my former glasses - short distance ones - in the meantime until I got tested for new lens, however the man who rang on the Monday post op said I must not use them but had to get Ready Readers glasses. Suggest that consistency here would be a great help. Also the man who rang on the Monday was talking very fast and softly, I was only able to hear about 50% of what he was saying. I did say I was deaf too!!

Hi there. Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We’re pleased to hear that you had a good overall experience, but we’re sorry to learn about the confusion regarding the advice you received after your procedure. We completely understand how receiving different guidance about using your previous glasses versus ready readers could be frustrating. Your feedback about the need for clearer and more consistent communication between team members is extremely valuable, and we will be sharing this with our clinical and patient care teams to help improve the experience for future patients. We’re also very sorry to hear that the post-operative phone call was difficult to follow, particularly after you had mentioned that you are deaf. Clear and accessible communication is extremely important to us, and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention so that we can ensure our team is more mindful of speaking clearly and at an appropriate pace during follow-up calls. Thank you again for your feedback. It helps us improve the care and service we provide. If you would like to discuss your experience further or if there is anything we can assist you with, please don’t hesitate to get in touch at info@visionscotland.com.

I requested an appointment with Vision Scotland for an assessment of my cataracts with the intention of having cataract surgery following a recommendation from my optician. I was phoned to say that an appointment had become available the next day. I took up the appointment and had my assessment carried out. What I did not realise was that by accepting the appointment I would be allocated to one ophthalmology surgeon and would not have the option of choosing my surgeon for the cataract operation. This was annoying since the PR documentation advised that you could choose/select a surgeon to carry out the operation. During the assessment it was clear that the machine taking my eye measurements could not accurately determine the measurements for my right eye due to the type of cataract. The optometrist used the ultrasound method (A Scan Biometry) which is not so accurate to determine the eye measurements. The ophthalmologist suggested using EMV lenses, however, the optometrist suggested that Clareon monofocal lense would be more appropriate since there was a risk that the right eye measurements may not be accurate enough to get the benefit of the EMV lens. On checking the measurements it was also found that the figures/measurements of the right eye were outwith the range of the EMV lens. Why was the ERV function available on the Argos biometer equipment not used when there was difficulty measuring my eyes using standards settings? On reflection and concerned about the accuracy of measurement of the right eye measurement I requested a second opinion using a different machin...

At my scheduled appt 4/3/26, I had a lengthy 2.5 hr delay on wait time for my procedure. Is this an acceptable delay for a private 5 star seamless patient experience. ?

Hi there. Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review and we're really sorry this was your experience. While we always hope to keep waiting times to a minimum, delays can occasionally occur in a clinical setting, particularly if additional time is required to ensure the safety and care of patients undergoing treatment. We would appreciate the opportunity to review this for you, so please contact the clinic directly and a member of our team will be happy to assist, either at info@visionscotland.com or on 08008 202080.
