About Mr Jonathan Ross
Mr. Jonathan Ross is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon based in Edinburgh, specialising in cataract surgery, laser eye surgery, vision correction, and eyelid surgery. Since 2010, he has been a leading figure in Scotland’s only hospital-based service offering a comprehensive range of vision correction and cataract solutions.
Mr. Ross's expertise includes multifocal and trifocal lens surgery, toric implants, accommodative lenses, and standard (NHS) lens surgery for cataract patients. For vision correction, he provides multifocal, trifocal, toric, accommodative, and standard lens exchanges, along with LASIK, PRK, LASEK, and EpiLASEK laser eye surgeries. He also offers specialised treatments for previous NHS cataract patients seeking improved vision without glasses, such as Sulcoflex piggyback multifocals and top-up laser eye surgery. Additionally, he addresses poor vision from corneal scarring with excimer laser corneal reshaping (phototherapeutic keratectomy) and provides collagen crosslinking for keratoconus patients. His glaucoma patients benefit from a comprehensive preventative care program, and he performs a full range of functional and cosmetic eyelid surgeries.
Mr. Ross’s advanced surgical techniques extend to pioneering lens surgery for patients with advanced macular degeneration, a procedure he performs as one of only four surgeons in the UK. With over 10,000 eye operations, he is one of Scotland’s busiest and most experienced surgeons.
He trained in London, Liverpool, and Glasgow, before working as a consultant in New Zealand. He founded Laser Vision Scotland in 2010 and, in 2014, partnered with Sanjay Mantry to establish Vision Scotland, expanding treatment options across four innovative clinics. Mr Ross is also an active member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

Mr Ross was welcoming and reassuring. Mr Ross was very honest with his predicted outcome. He didn't try to oversell the recommended lens. I asked him if I would be able to play snooker without my "Denis Taylor Spex" and he said that he couldn't guarantee it but could guarantee that my eyesight would be better after the cataract surgery. I'm happy to report that I can now play snooker "glasses free" and my eyesight is far better than I was expecting. Many thanks to Mr Ross and the rest of the Vision Scotland Team.
