Miss Kate Maclaran

Miss Kate Maclaran is a Consultant Gynaecologist and accredited subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery in London. She is Clinical Lead for The Fertility Centre at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust. Her clinical interests span fertility and gynaecology, particularly assisted conception, low ovarian reserve, premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), menopause, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), ovulation induction and reproductive surgery.

Miss Maclaran completed her postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in North West London, followed by subspecialty training in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust. She also completed an MD Research degree at Imperial College London, investigating the safety of testosterone use in women. Her research has continued alongside her clinical work, and she has presented at national and international meetings and published on subjects including early ovarian ageing, POI, fibroids, minimally invasive surgery and mid-life women’s health.

Her research projects have included leading a clinical trial examining the effects of postmenopausal testosterone on the cardiovascular system and libido, which formed the basis of her MD thesis. She has also contributed to the development of an international POI registry and worked as an investigator on multicentre clinical trials involving contraception, assisted conception and hormone replacement therapy.

Alongside her clinical and academic work, Miss Maclaran is involved in supporting greater awareness of women’s health issues. She is a Trustee and past Chair of the Daisy Network, a charity supporting women with premature ovarian insufficiency. Her published work includes a European Society of Cardiology consensus paper examining links between gynaecological conditions and cardiovascular health, as well as a Lancet paper on early menopause.
