Dr John Findlay

Dr John Findlay is a highly accomplished Consultant General Surgeon who specialises in upper gastrointestinal and abdominal wall surgery. Known for his compassionate approach and dedication to clinical excellence, he provides patient-centred care tailored to the individual needs of every patient. His practice encompasses a broad range of general surgical conditions, with a focus on delivering safe, effective, and evidence-based care to improve long-term recovery and patient quality of life.

Dr Findlay possesses advanced clinical expertise in complex and robotic hernia surgery, including the treatment of incisional, inguinal, and hiatal hernias. He also offers specialist care for chronic post-hernia surgical pain and benign upper gastrointestinal conditions. Utilising modern, minimally invasive laparoscopic surgical techniques alongside personalised surgical prehabilitation, Dr Findlay aims to optimise clinical outcomes, minimise postoperative discomfort, and accelerate patient recovery.

Dr Findlay completed his undergraduate medical studies at the University of Nottingham, earning a Bachelor of Medical Science with First Class Honours in 2005 and graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery with Honours in 2007. He subsequently completed higher surgical training in Oxford and earned a PhD in Genomic and Clinical Informatics. Dr Findlay holds Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons and was awarded Fellowship of the European Board of Surgery in Abdominal Wall Surgery. He is an active member and Director of Science for the British Hernia Society and serves as Chief Investigator for national hernia surgery registries.

In addition to his surgical practice, Dr Findlay is actively involved in clinical education and academic research. As an Honorary Associate Professor and Senior Clinical Tutor, he contributes to training future medical professionals and leads research initiatives focused on personalising surgical care, evaluating functional outcomes, and refining clinical decision-making.
