Mr Devender Mittapalli

Devender Mittapalli is a Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon practising at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (Derriford Hospital) and Nuffield Health Plymouth Hospital. He specialises in the full spectrum of vascular surgery, with particular expertise in minimally invasive (endovenous) treatments and complex venous conditions.

Mr Mittapalli manages a wide range of vascular conditions, including aortic aneurysms, carotid artery disease, lower limb vascular reconstruction, thoracic outlet syndrome, dialysis access, and venous disease. He has a special interest in the treatment of varicose veins, including associated leg ulcers, and offers advanced keyhole techniques as well as Botox treatment for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

He graduated from NTR University of Health Sciences and completed his basic surgical training in Manchester. He subsequently undertook higher surgical training in vascular surgery within the East of Scotland Deanery. Alongside his clinical training, he developed a strong interest in medical education, completing a Master’s degree in Medical Education at University of Warwick.

A committed educator and trainer, Mr Mittapalli is an examiner for Royal College of Surgeons membership examinations and previously served as Director of Education for the Association of Surgeons in Training. He is currently the Educational and Research Lead for the Department of Vascular Surgery at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust and is actively involved in research, particularly in varicose veins and thoracic outlet syndrome.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS) and the European Board of Vascular Surgery (FEBVS), as well as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a Member of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
