Dr Collinge earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology with First Class Honours from the University of Bristol in 1981, followed by his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 1984 and Doctor of Medicine in 1992. He subsequently completed postgraduate specialist training in general medicine and neurology in London. A highly decorated clinician, he achieved membership with the Royal College of Physicians in 1988 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 1998. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists, a Founder Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, and a Fellow of the Royal Society.
In his clinical practice, Dr Collinge specialises in the diagnosis and management of rare neurodegenerative disorders, with particular focus on human prion diseases including Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. His broad clinical interests encompass the genetic and molecular bases of neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia, and motor neurone disease.
