I have been a consultant for 20 years and have seen a few changes, but I remain passionate about the delivery of high quality patient care.

My role is to either provide it or act as the patient's advocate to find it.

That care comes in many forms, from performing a highly complex procedure, listening to a patient's concern, navigating multiple possible treatment paths or getting their care back on track with the right specialist.

In any consultation I want to listen to the patient's perspective, but also explain my approach which will be rooted in the science of medicine.

Qualifications

I studied Medicine at St.John's College Cambridge as a Rolleston Scholar. My general Gastroenterology training was in South West London and then after 2 years of research at the Royal Free Hospital, held senior registar posts in GI Laser and Hepatobiliary medinice at UCH and then Liver Transplant at the Royal Free Hospital

I took up my substantive NHS consultant post at Basildon in 2001 and created the Hepatology and pancreatology services there. I led the bid to bring Bowel cancer screening to South Essex in 2008 and led both it and the Endoscopy unit until 2016.

In 2020/1 I took on the role on Clinical Director of Endoscopy for the Mid Essex Trusts (Basildon, Broomfield and Southend hospitals).

My private practice reflects my NHS with my particular clinical focus on complex endoscopy, in which field I receive referrals form the East of England.

I have performed over 10,000 colonoscopies, around 10,000 gastroscopies and over 1000 colorectal EMRs.

I have lectured and presented both nationally and internationally on IBD, endoscopy, nutrition and pancreatology.
