Dr David Gertner

Dr David Gertner serves as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Nuffield Health Brentwood Hospital and Spire Hartswood Hospital, specialising in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Upper GI Gastroenterology, and nutrition.

With over 30 years of experience, Dr Gertner has held the position of Consultant Gastroenterologist and General Physician at Basildon. His expertise spans various areas of gastroenterological practice, including inflammatory bowel disease, nutrition, and gastrointestinal cancer. As a certified advanced bowel cancer screening colonoscopist, he demonstrates high competence as an endoscopist. Dr Gertner has led the hospital's Upper GI Cancer Group and served as the Regional Network Chair for upper GI cancer until 2019.

In addition to his clinical roles, Dr Gertner holds the position of Clinical Effectiveness Lead for the Trust, overseeing a wide range of clinical quality issues, with a focus on NICE guidance and quality standards. He previously served as the Clinical Director for Medicine and Emergency Care, managing various aspects of a large Directorate, including managerial, administrative, and financial responsibilities.

Dr Gertner takes pride in his teaching achievements and has received the Top Teacher award from UCLH on multiple occasions. He actively engages in educating medical students, junior doctors, and nurses. Known for his collaborative approach, he maintains close links with all staff members, including nurse specialists, administrators, and managers.
