About Mr Hasan Kasem
Mr Hasan Kasem is a highly experienced Consultant Surgeon, based in Lanarkshire. He has a specialist interest in laparoscopic surgery (keyhole surgery), weight loss and diseases of the oesophagus, stomach and gallbladder. He also specialises in all types of hernia and different methods of repair.
After graduating in Medicine in 1991 from the University of Edinburgh, Mr Kasem completed his surgical training in the West of Scotland where he achieved his specialist consultant qualification in 2003. He took up a consultant post as Consultant Upper GI Surgeon for University of Wishaw (NHS Lanarkshire) in 2004.
Mr Kasem is an active member of the West of Scotland Upper GI Cancer network. He is part of the West of Scotland Complex Hernia network. In 2004, he established the NHS Lanarkshire weight management service and is currently Bariatric Lead.
He regularly attends specialist conferences in laparoscopic surgery, to keep up to date with the latest advances and ensure he is giving his patients the most effective treatments.

Was a little bit disappointed with the service of leaving the hospital I hardly slept during the night. A young boy told me at 7:30 to get washed and ready to go home about 10 I said 11 o’clock would be better but when I was getting ready to go home my medication wasn’t ready. My taxi arrived 1130 and he had to go away then I had to find someone else with great difficulty to pick me up and sign papers to discharge me.the young boy did apologise . I was waiting for quite a bit of time and all my medication to be ready.
Went in on the Wednesday for my assessment and Had my inguinal hernia operation the next Thursday 8 days later. Brilliant 👏.

Consultant Hasan Kasem has performed 2 procedures on me in the past and I have been very pleased withthe treatment I have had. Also on my recent 'outpatient' appt. I was far to early yet he saw me right away andexplained everything very clearly to me.
Mr Kasem listened to me, explained my options giving a full and frank description of risks and/or side effects. He also assured me if my symptoms reoccur, that I can contact my GP to arrange a further appointment.
Made to feel comfortable throughout the appointment.
Extremely professional and was very good at explaining things in greater detail for me when required. I felt completely comfortable in talking/communicating with Dr Kasem. Put any worries I had in regards to the surgery at ease.
