Dr Gareth Ayre

Dr Gareth Ayre is a dedicated Consultant Clinical Oncologist who specialises in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of thoracic malignancies and soft tissue sarcomas. With a patient-centred approach to care, he is committed to delivering personalised, evidence-based treatment plans that are tailored to the unique needs of each individual. Dr Ayre works closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that patients receive comprehensive and coordinated care throughout their treatment journey, combining clinical excellence with a reassuring and compassionate manner.

His clinical practice encompasses a wide range of advanced oncological therapies, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted systemic therapies, and radiotherapy. Dr Ayre has particular expertise in utilising state-of-the-art radiotherapy techniques, such as stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR), to target tumours with high precision while minimising side effects and preserving surrounding healthy tissue. He is also highly experienced in providing supportive and palliative care, focusing on managing symptoms and enhancing the overall quality of life for patients facing complex cancer diagnoses.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Ayre is actively involved in clinical research and service development to help advance the field of oncology. He serves as a Research Sub-Specialty Lead for regional cancer services and has contributed to national clinical guidelines, including radiotherapy dose fractionation guidance published by the Royal College of Radiologists. Dr Ayre is a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) and a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP), regularly participating in professional development to integrate the latest scientific advancements into his daily practice.
