Ms Gael MacLean is a consultant oncoplastic breast surgeon based in Oxford. She is the lead surgeon for breast surgery in the NHS in Oxford based at the Churchill Hopital.
Ms MacLean can offer patients consultations and imaging (mammography and ultrasound), allowing rapid diagnosis. She can also see patients at short notice if they have been diagnosed with breast cancer and wish to discuss their surgical options.
She offers the whole range of breast surgery for both symptomatic and screen detected breast cancers and also for benign breast conditions. She specialises in therapeutic mammoplasties where the cancer is removed while retaining the shape of the breast, mastectomy combined with implant reconstruction and works with plastic surgery collegues in offering mastectomy combined with abdominal based breast reconstruction. She is also an expert in axillary surgery including sentinel node biopsies, axillary lymph node clearance and targeted axillary dissection.
Ms MacLean works closely with Consultant radiologists, oncologists and breast cancer specialist nurses to ensure her patients have maximum support and information at a very stressful time.
Ms MacLean qualified from King's College, London, and completed surgical training at various hospitals across the UK, including Reading, London, and Oxford. as well as at the Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm Sweden.
She is actively involved in the training of surgeons in the NHS and examines surgeons for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh both nationally and internationally ensuring excellent standards of surgical care for patients.
