About Dr John Griffiths
Dr John Griffiths is a highly experienced specialist in Anaesthetics and Intensive Care Medicine, with a career dedicated to delivering safe, effective, and patient-centred care. He completed his medical training at Oxford University and St Bartholomew’s Medical School in London in 1995, before going on to achieve Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 1999. He was later awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2002 and Fellowship of the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine in 2006.
In 2009, Dr Griffiths was appointed Consultant in Anaesthetics and Intensive Care Medicine at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. His clinical focus is on ensuring patients are fully prepared for surgery, maintaining safety throughout anaesthesia, and supporting optimal pain management and post-operative recovery.
Dr Griffiths provides anaesthesia for procedures including breast reconstructive and hernia surgery, and offers services such as cardiopulmonary exercise testing and intravenous sedation. He works closely within a multidisciplinary team of highly respected surgeons and specialists to deliver coordinated, high-quality care.

I saw Dr Griffiths for a pre-op appointment and very much appreciated his calm & reassuring manner with answering any questions
The doctor was excellent in all aspects of the procedure and took the trouble to explain all to me. He also followed up my appointment later by calling me at home. I have a medical problem which restricts my neck movement and makes swallowing tubes during intubation difficult for me and in the past this has been done with me awake prior to an operation. He wanted to speak to the consultant who recently carried out this procedure on me for any tip so he could pass it on to his colleague who would be doing my operation
I was referred to doctor Griffiths for a pre operative physical assessment, as I have a cardiac problem including irregular heartbeat it was necessary to understand my physical ability to undergo the operation. In addition to confirming this it also provided me with personal confidence of my physical ability to have the operation. I would strongly recommend patients in my position to undergo the tests which Dr Griffiths carried out very thoroughly and provided me with a documented analysis.
