Dr Frances O'Brien

Dr Frances O'Brien is a dedicated Consultant Neonatologist and Paediatrician who specialises in the care of newborn babies, infants, and young children. Her clinical work focuses on managing a wide range of medical conditions in infants during their first year of life, as well as monitoring and supporting early child development. Dr O'Brien provides compassionate, family-centred care aimed at identifying and addressing medical and developmental concerns as early as possible.

Her areas of clinical interest include perinatal brain injury, prematurity, faltering growth, and newborn feeding challenges. Dr O'Brien provides comprehensive developmental assessments for infants and children up to three years of age, particularly those born preterm or with complex neurodevelopmental needs. Her diagnostic and therapeutic scope encompasses cranial ultrasound evaluations, neurodevelopmental screening, blood tests, and coordinated care to optimise long-term child development outcomes.

Dr O'Brien studied medicine at London Hospital Medical College, University of London, before completing specialist paediatric training in London. She undertook an Action Research Fellowship in Neonatology at University College London and completed Higher Specialist Training in Paediatrics with a specialisation in neonatology. In addition to her clinical practice, she serves as an Honorary Senior Lecturer, supervising advanced research in preterm neurodevelopment. Dr O'Brien maintains professional memberships with the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, the Neonatal Society, the British Association of Perinatal Medicine, and the British Association for Neonatal Neurodevelopmental Follow-Up, where she serves as President.
