Dr Edward Johnstone

Dr Edward Johnstone is a Consultant Obstetrician and Professor of Obstetrics and Foetal Medicine who provides comprehensive care across maternal and foetal health. Specialising in high-risk pregnancies and complex obstetric management, he is dedicated to offering reassuring and compassionate support to expectant mothers and their families. His clinical practice focuses on guiding women through challenging pregnancies, ensuring continuous monitoring of foetal development, and maintaining the highest standard of care throughout gestation.

Dr Johnstone's main area of clinical expertise encompasses foetal growth restriction and placental dysfunction. He oversees specialised clinical services that assess placental health and manage pregnancies where foetal growth may be compromised. His clinical approach incorporates advanced diagnostic techniques, including detailed foetal ultrasound and placental magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), to formulate precise, individualised care plans for mothers and their babies.

Dr Johnstone completed his undergraduate medical training, graduating with an MBChB from the University of Leeds in 1994. He subsequently pursued specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, during which he undertook research in trophoblast cell biology in the United Kingdom and Canada, earning a PhD from the University of Manchester in 2005. He achieved his Certificate of Completion of Training in Foetal Medicine in 2009. He is a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) and remains actively involved in leading clinical research and academic teaching.
