About Dr Phillip Mayhead
Dr Phillip Mayhead is a Consultant Gastroenterologist with over 15 years of experience in the field. He completed his medical school training at King's College London and spent two years working in rural New South Wales, Australia, before returning to the UK to complete his higher medical training in General Medicine and Gastroenterology. He has been an accredited Bowel Cancer Screener (BCSP) for the past 9 years and is an examiner for the national BCS programme.
He has a friendly and proactive approach to the management of GI and liver related conditions, and is dedicated to spending time with patients to provide a clear explanation and management plan that offers peace of mind.

I saw Dr Mayhead for a second opinion in Gastroenterology, having made no meaningful progress with my symptoms since November. Following two appointments and tests over a period of approximately 6–7 weeks, a clear course of action was taken, including the prescription of rifaximin. Since starting the treatment, I have noticed an improvement, which is the first positive change for some time. What stands out is the contrast with the preceding months, during which there had been little movement or direction. In a relatively short timeframe, Dr Mayhead was able to assess the situation, make a decision, and initiate treatment. It is still early days, but the initial response is encouraging. I appreciated the fact that the consultation led to a practical step forward rather than further delay. Overall, this felt like a constructive and purposeful approach to what has been a prolonged and frustrating issue.
