About Dr Phillip Mayhead
Dr Phillip Mayhead is a Consultant Gastroenterologist with over 15 years of experience in the field. He completed his medical school training at King's College London and spent two years working in rural New South Wales, Australia, before returning to the UK to complete his higher medical training in General Medicine and Gastroenterology. He has been an accredited Bowel Cancer Screener (BCSP) for the past 9 years and is an examiner for the national BCS programme.
He has a friendly and proactive approach to the management of GI and liver related conditions, and is dedicated to spending time with patients to provide a clear explanation and management plan that offers peace of mind.
Dr Mayhead's areas of specialty include diagnostics of GI dysfunction, inflammatory bowel disease, functional GI disorders such as IBS, advanced endoscopy (diagnostic and therapeutic), upper and lower GI dysfunction, small bowel disorders and capsule endoscopy, and the assessment and management of liver disorders.
He has completed a Master's Degree in Human Nutrition through Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia, and is interested in the treatment of pancreatic disorders and both upper and lower gastrointestinal symptom management.
Dr Mayhead is a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology and the British Medical Association.

Dr Mayhead took notice of my concerns regarding sedation following a previous sedation issue during a gastroscopy. Every care was taken. I suffered no ill effects from either the sedation or the colonoscopy.
This was my first appointment with Dr Mayhead, for an ongoing chronic illness. He was friendly and courteous, listened to what I had to say. Also, he had taken time to look back at my previous tests done in the NHS over several years. He explained clearly what he thought the problem was and what the next steps were in terms of investigation and treatment.
Dr Mayhead is a very kind & caring Dr. He explained everything clearly to me & made me feel at ease. He is very professional & a very nice person....Thank you. I would highly recommend choosing him. I also feel I should mention Dr Mayhead's PA who is kind & efficient. Thank you.

I was happy with my consultation with Phillip Mayhead. He took time to explore my symptoms and it was agreed that a gastroscopy was the way forward. The procedure was explained clearly and on the afternoon the staff were proficient, friendly and reassuring. I was pleased that I was given a printed copy of the findings before leaving.
Dr Mayhead is very approachable. He listened to my concerns and fully explained the tests that would follow.
